A Vision of Music and Art
Shela Yu, known for her ability to transform walls into storytelling canvases, was selected for this project because of her unique artistic vision. Her work at Rosie’s House is a visual symphony that resonates deeply with the spirit of our organization.
The mural, spanning across the front and west side of our building, is a dynamic depiction of musical elements that flow seamlessly across the facade. Yu’s design blends abstract forms with musical symbols, reflecting the energy and passion that music infuses into our lives.

A Musical Inspiration
At the heart of this mural is a special piece of music: Rhapsody No. 1 by composer and violinist Jessie Montgomery. Yu ingeniously incorporated elements of Montgomery’s composition into her artwork, capturing the essence of the piece’s melodies and harmonies. The mural’s vibrant colors and sweeping lines echo the emotions conveyed in Rhapsody No. 1, creating a visual representation of the music that can be felt by anyone who stands before it.
For more information, including program notes of Rhapsody No. 1, please visit Jessie Montgomery’s website.

A Celebration of Community
This mural is not just a decoration for our building; it is a symbol of the vibrant community that Rosie’s House serves. As an organization dedicated to providing free music education to youth, we believe in the power of music to bring people together, inspire creativity, and foster a sense of belonging. Yu’s mural beautifully embodies these values, serving as a constant reminder of the joy and unity that music brings.
We invite everyone to visit Rosie’s House and experience this incredible mural in person. Whether you’re a student, a supporter, or a passerby, we hope that this work of art will inspire you as much as it has inspired us.
Thank you to Shela Yu for her incredible work and to Jessie Montgomery for the musical inspiration behind this mural. Together, they have created something truly special for our community to enjoy for years to come.
