When young Rosie Schurz was forced to flee Munich with her family during World War II, she had to leave behind her most precious possession: her violin. Out of that experience grew a commitment to help all children experience the gift of music.
In 1996, the German immigrant opened a home in an underserved Phoenix neighborhood to begin to fulfill that commitment. What began under one small roof now has grown into Rosie’s House, a thriving music academy rooted in opportunity, creativity, excellence and community. Today, we honor Rosie’s story by offering free music education to hundreds of students each year.
