Music and technology go hand in hand. Every instrument is a technological innovation. Rosie’s House Digital Music is a place for students to become innovators and dive deep into their creativity. In Digital Music students use computer software programs to make beats, create synthesized sounds, and produce and record music tracks. Computers are instruments too, and through the digital platform students learn and explore the fundamental elements that make music (rhythm, melody, harmony, and form) the same as they would on an acoustic instrument. Digital Music is a great class for students who already play an acoustic instrument and want to expand their musical experiences, and for students who do not play an acoustic instrument but who want an alternative path to creating music.
In the introductory Beatmakers classes students learn how to program drum loops, layer chord harmonies and melodies over drum tracks, arrange multiple tracks and segments into song sections, and finally produce full song tracks. Students learn how to break down popular songs into music elements to learn how professional producers create and arrange music.
In the advanced Pure Data/Ableton software classes students deep dive into programming and coding. They learn about the science of sound and how to create new synthesized sounds. Then, they create their own library of sounds and use them to record and arrange beats, tracks, and songs.
